City Hall

Our choir sang at the City Hall yesterday with all the other schools from the Ouseburn Learning Trust. This is the 10th year in a row that the schools have performed. The standard gets better and better and better.

A few thank yous; firstly to Mrs Powley and her team for working so hard with the children to produce a stunning performance, to you for coming to support the children and of course to the children themselves. The stars of the show.

APP Challenge

We had a great time taking part in the Ouseburn Learning Trust APP Challenge. The project has run since Christmas and Year 5/6 have been beavering away designing APPs for Great North Children’s Hospital. All Year 5/6 classes got to go and visit the Hospital to find out more about the children there and what kind of APPs may help them during their stay.

They then returned to school to begin to design and code their ideas. Holly from the ‘Ouseburn Learning Trust’ helped develop our ideas.

The event culminated with a presentation to 4 Judges at Heaton Manor School. All children gave a great account of themselves. The icing on the cake was that Class 9 won! Their APP will appear on the APP store soon(ish)! We will of course let you know when this happens!

The school would like to thank all who helped organise and drive the event.

Below are some slide shows of the process and the event itself.

The Event

Just before we broke up Max made an appearance on a well known television show!

He won a competition to encourage people to travel on the tube in London. The press release about the competition and Max’s day can be found here.

Blue Peter’s editor was impressed: “Blue Peter viewers really stepped up to the challenge in this competition. We had thousands of incredible applications but Max’s poster had everything; amazing artwork and an amazing tagline. Well done Max!”

Max appeared live on Thursday the 20th. You can copy the links and paste them into your internet browser.

He then went straight to London and had a fantastic day filming with the Blue Peter team on Friday. They made a brilliant film of that, which went out on the show on Thursday 27th October. It’s really worth a watch! (it’s in the second half of the show):

In addition the BBC issued a press release about Max’s winning poster!
